There are two basic kinds of whitening products that are available to your dentist. You have bleaching and non-bleaching products.

Today’s non-bleaching products employ abrasives or use chemicals. They are confined to removing surface stains on teeth.

As to bleaching products, they contain a chemical called peroxide. This particular product is capable of brightening your teeth by several shades.

In addition to these two agents, there is another process that utilizes a special gel. This gel is placed inside a flexible device or appliance that you wear around your teeth for a designated period of time. Once you remove the device, a second bleaching agent is required. Once you’ve completed that, you follow up with a special light to activate the chemical action, which completes the bleaching process.

If your teeth are only mildly stained, you will only have to complete one session of bleaching.
