If you ever suffer a cut on your face or the soft tissue inside your mouth, you should attend to it quickly. You want to reduce the possibilities of any further damage to the tissue and prevent possible infection.
Traumatic Injury
In the case of a traumatic injury to the jaw, nose, chin or cheek, like a broken facial bone, you may have to have surgery to repair the injury.
In most cases, to hold the fractured jaw in place following surgery, rubber bands, tiny wires, metal braces, and screws or plates are utilized to secure it. This will ensure the bone heals properly and alignment is maintained.
After jaw surgery is completed, dental splints or dentures may be required to assist in the healing process
