Advanced materials are used in designing today’s dentures, which provides patients with a more natural look.
It should be noted that dentures require the same thorough care that your regular teeth do. Thus multiple daily brushing, as well as regularly scheduled visits to your dentist must be maintained.
These recurring visits to your dentist are important. During those visits, your dentist can make minor adjustments to your dentures to make sure they are fitting properly and offer you the greatest level of comfort.
Not unlike natural teeth, your dentures will require regular cleanings to get rid of plaque, any remaining food particles and other debris that could affect your dental health. Taking care of your dentures offers another big benefit. Your efforts will ensure that the soft tissues of your mouth are free of disease and healthy. If your dentures don’t fit properly or they are not cleaned regularly, you could wind up with infections and irritation.
Cleaning Techniques
Rinse and brush your dentures following a meal. Also be sure to soak them in denture solution overnight. Soaking them will give your gums a chance to breathe while you sleep.
Try these simple techniques to keep dentures clean:
You can brush dentures in a different of ways. Some use soap and water or a slightly abrasive toothpaste. There are also denture pastes and creams.
Don’t use highly abrasive chemicals or pastes, or brush with hard bristled toothbrushes. They can scratch or possibly crack dentures.
Be sure to hold dentures gently. You don’t want to loosen a tooth.
Use cool or tepid water over a water-filled sink to clean dentures. Hot water could easily warp a denture. Place asmall washcloth placed in the bottom of the bowl will ensure that your denture isn't damaged if it falls.
Soak your dentures overnight in any commercially available product. You can use Efferdent or Polident if you like. Don’t forget to rinse your dentures when you place them back in your mouth.
To clean your own natural teeth, use a separate toothbrush. Use this to also clean your gum tissues. Instead of a toothbrush, use a soft washcloth to wipe your gums.
Despite your diligence and care, over time, your dentures may need to be cleaned by your dentist. They have access to a powerful ultrasonic cleaner, which can remove hard accumulations of tartar and other difficult substances.
